Four Ways to Add Positivity to Life

In current times it can feel difficult to find the positives in life. Here are four tips to

bring a little brightness to your day and others.

1. Contact a Friend

With increased times spent working from home and social distancing decreasing our time spent with loved ones, it's easy to let friendships slip. Just sending a simple message to a family member or friend can make all the difference and let them know you're thinking of them. It's also good to touch base with someone you've not heard from in a while to check they're coping . Or, go really retro and bring out the pen and paper and write someone a letter.

2. Laugh

Apparently, the study of humour and laughter is called "gelotology". Which to me sounds like the study of ice cream so I'm good with that. Watch your favourite funny movie, or listen to a comedian who makes you laugh and soon you'll be feeling brighter and more relaxed. Plus, laughter can be infectious so you're likely to cheer up those around you too.

3. Flex Your Green Fingers

Plants of all types have been shown to have proven health benefits so what a perfect excuse to indulge in a new plant or two (or three!). Scientific studies have shown that just being able to see a plant increases productivity, concentration and creativity and improves your mood.

During lockdown I've been reading up on how to keep my plants alive and have had so much success that I've had to re-pot them into larger containers. I've even taken cuttings which have grown into little plants that I've been able to give away to friends, thus spreading the joy. The company Small Plants have some beautiful starter kits with plants that are almost impossible to kill, whilst Feels Like Home have gorgeous house plants and pots.

4. Send a Surprise Gift to Someone

Sometimes its important to go the extra mile for others and surprising them with a gift is always a great way to show you're thinking of them. It doesn't even have to be something expensive. In fact, this point flows on from the previous one as I think plants are an ideal gift to give and they don't have to cost much at all.

Receiving an unexpected gift lifts your mood for the rest of the day and into the next. It just makes you feel cared for and reminds you that you're important to someone. There's also the extra bonus that science has actually proven we get great pleasure from giving so what a better way to get the endorphins going. At Wild Ginger we can send your jewellery directly to the recipient if you've bought it as a gift. We'll even wrap it in tissue paper and ribbon!
